Overview
The 2010 Mazda RX-8 is a 4-door, 4-passenger sports car, available in 3 trims: Sport, Grand Touring and R3. For 2010, Mazda has eliminated the Touring trim and the Grand Touring now comes with a moonroof and satellite radio as standard equipment.
Powertrain And Performance
The Mazda RX-8 is powered by a 1.3-liter RENESIS rotary engine. The engine's output depends on the transmission selected. Models with the six-speed automatic (with paddle shifters) receive 212 horsepower. When equipped with the six-speed manual version, it provides 232 horsepower. The engine produces 159 pound-feet of torque for both the transmissions.
Build And Styling
The Mazda RX-8 exhibits a sleek, athletic body with new aggressive front and rear styling; integrated side turn indicators; muscular front fenders; and a sporty front bumper. The "free style" reverse-opening rear doors make loading passengers and cargo easier. The rear compartment accommodates extra storage.
The base Sport sports a rear lip spoiler (manual transmission models only); 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels; cloth-trimmed bucket seats; center console; leather-wrapped steering wheel; and cruise control. Additional amenities on the Grand Touring include heated side mirrors; eight-way power driver seat with memory; automatic headlights; heated front seats; premium leather upholstery; and automatic climate control.
The motorsports-inspired R3 includes standard 19-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels, performance-tuned suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers and Recaro front sport leather- and cloth-trimmed seats.
Bose audio system, Bluetooth hands-free phone capability, heated front seats and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry and Start System are available.
Safety Features
The 2010 Mazda RX-8's safety features include Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Traction Control System (TCS), LATCH, antitheft alarm system, 3-point seat belts for all 4 seating positions, advanced front air bags with seat belt-use, passenger-weight and driver's seat-position sensors, Front side-impact air bags and side-impact air curtains.
